What We Do

At Riverbank, we are a family first and a charity second. Our team seeks to offer love and friendship, not just for moments of crisis but for the twisting, turning journey along the riverbank of life, for as long or short a time as a family wants us. Here are some of the ways that we do this:

BEFRIENDING

Staff and volunteers come alongside parents and their children to help combat isolation and provide emotional and practical support, often when in crisis.

COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP

As a Community Sponsor, we are a charity approved by the Home Office to support a refugee family from Syria.

SCHOOLS WORK

We work in three local primary schools 1:1 with children offering emotional and practical support.

SUPPORT GROUPS

These include a group for parents of children with Special Educational Needs, a weekly pre-school group providing a home cooked lunch for families, and a weekly drop in at a local homeless hostel where mums and children make friends, get breakfast, and build relationships.

PARENTING

Partnering with Kids Matter in delivering a structured program of teaching and learning to develop parenting skills.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Family events in school holidays, including working with external partners to provide free art and sports based activities.

“I help in the kitchen with cooking, serving or clearing up as I felt this was something I could do and I knew there was a need for helpers… I have got to know other helpers better which has been an unexpected blessing and slowly I am getting to know some of the Mums and their lovely children.”
