Praying

Prayer runs through everything at Riverbank. The charity’s Trustees and staff are committed to prayer. Many of Riverbank’s supporters also pray for the impact of Riverbank’s work.

Why Pray?

We share personal testimonies here from time to time as testimonies can sometimes answer questions in a very practical way.

For identity protection purposes the following testimony avoids use of real names.

After years of illness descended into palliative care, Lily sadly lay with a collapsed lung, broken spine, shoulder and ribs, unable to sleep and poised to start tube feeding. Then one night, through her tears, she called out to God. Lily recalls her experience; “I felt this incredible warmth around me and a peacefulness. Finally I was able to sleep. The next day I was able to eat again”, she says. Life-threatening conditions changed “for the first time in my adult life” she reflects. Told she would be unlikely to have children, Lily was blessed with a baby. Lily says her life today carries blessings she “never thought would be possible” - stability, thankfulness and the ability to serve others.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (letter of Paul to the church in Rome chapter 10 verse 13).

Want to pray for Riverbank?

If you want to join us in praying for Riverbank, we’d welcome that.
Here’s a prayer we pray; you’re welcome to join us in praying it.

“O God our Heavenly Father

Thank You for the extraordinary value that You place on each human being…

…demonstrated by the extraordinary price that You paid in giving Your Son, Jesus, to die for each of us.

Thank You for the hope made available through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Cause this hope to flow through Riverbank to every family we meet.

Cause this hope to produce in each of us what You’ve planned.

We pray in the name of Jesus.
Amen”

Feel free to contact us to let us know you prayed! We’re always thankful.

Jesus taught us to avoid praying long and empty prayers; prayer should be a response to God from the heart! So, you can use your own words when praying. The following teachings about prayer are with us today because of Jesus, and these teachings can guide your prayers.

“Jesus said....Whatever you ask in My name, this will I do, that the Father maybe glorified in the Son.”

(The gospel of John chapter 14, ESV)

“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

(The letter of James chapter 1, NIV)

“in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

(The letter to the church at Phillipi chapter 4, NIV)

“So Jesus told them, “Pray in this way: ‘Father, help us to honour Your name. Come and set up Your kingdom. Give us each day the food we need. Forgive our sins, as we forgive everyone who has done wrong to us. And keep us from being tempted.’”

(The gospel of Luke chapter 11, CEV)
